A very busy day including Neuschwanstein Castle

And Linderhof Palace built by Ludwig II.  He also had a grotto built. Joshua liked the slugs the best. Lol The castle from Disney is based on Neuschwanstein.  Ludwig was actually very intelligent. He had central heat, running water, dumb waiter and even a telephone in Neuschwanstein After walking all the stairs, I  thought he would've invented the elevator! 14 woodcarvers worked 4 years to complete all the carving just in his bed chamber. He was declared insane and ended up dead at 40 years old in mysterious circumstances. If I were the people I'd want to get rid of him for spending all the money for palaces. He actually had 4 places in mind but only got to 3.

Wieskirche
Pilgrimage Church of the Scourged Saviour
It is said that, in 1738, tears were seen on a dilapidated wooden figure of the Scourged Saviour. This miracle resulted in a pilgrimage rush to see the sculpture and a larger place was needed. Construction of the rococo church took place between 1745 and 1754.

Beautiful and elaborate design and artwork.

We also visited the Ettal Abbey, founded on 28 April 1330,
which is said to have the best example of rococo. It is now a boarding school.

We also saw the highest mountain in Germany called the Zugspitze which is about 9700 feet. The mountain range is part of the Alps and separates Germany and Austria. Still lots of snow and cold looking. The cows had cow bells so they can find them if they end up missing in the mountains. I missed getting a photo of one with a bell.

Just wanted to let you know that IF the weather had been nice and we had gone up, we would have seen several countries.

Kaiserschwarm
We finished the day at a restaurant with white stargel (asparagus) and schnitzel. And Kaiserschmarm (a pancake type of yummy dessert).

Uncle Hans, Ulrike, Aunt Christa and Martin
Then we stayed up until 1:00am visiting with my cousin Ulrike and her husband Martin
