Memmingen

Our friends Sylvie, Bernhard and Yannick Schwarz with Joshua in Memmingen near the Alps. We had a wonderful time with our friends whom we met in America and who are originally from Germany. We had beautiful weather and was able to have our meals outside. Spent one day enjoying the sun and their pool... an uncommon sight. Enjoyed their little village with the Iller River running through it. Yannick is going onto the 5th grade and plays tennis and the piano. He and Joshua had a great time together. I was so impressed with how talented and creative Sylvie is. She has painted trompe l'oiel all in her house, made her curtains and created a beautiful yard. It's great to have friends with whom you can feel close with but so sad they are so faraway.

We started off visiting at Yannick's school event including ice cream.

They have a beautiful home.

We visited the village and enjoyed a cafe.

 There's always a cafe.

Unicorn in front of Our Ladys Church
The “Frauenkirche” was built in the 15th century, with the tower being from an earlier building from the 14th century. It’s a Lutheran church, but was used simultaneously by Protestants and Catholics in the time from 1565 until 1804. There’s a remarkable fresco on the tower wall inside the church, that dates from the early 16th century. And if you wonder why there’s an unicorn status in front of the church, then take a closer look at that fresco and search for the unicorn!

Every year the men, who have been residents of Memmingen for at least 10 years get in the stream and catch trout. The one with the largest trout wins and becomes the Fisher King! It started years ago when the stream would be drained and cleaned (1597). This fountain commemorates this tradition.
